Diagnosis

C. chalcites differs from its closely related species C.eriosoma (Doubleday, 1843) by its more golden-orange shining on its forewing whereas C.eriosoma generally dark coloured moth with less shining. A group of cornuti present on medial vesica and forming regular row in C.chalcites.

Description

Wingspan of adults 33-35 mm. Ground colour of forewing golden-orange to bronze-brown colour. Golden colour is more prominent. Post median line is more sinuous. There are two oval silver spots separated by each other on the forewing. Terminal line paler brown on anterior half with a small spot near margin of wing on vein M2 on the fringe. Hind wing more paler grey-brown in colour & darker towards the margin. In male genitalia vinculum longer and thinner with long Clavus. Vesica in this species armed by a wide group of cornuti forming a comb like structure. In female genitalia corpus bursae longer. Ductus bursae originates from the middle of the corpus bursae & tubular in shape.
